What Is Hypnosis Used For?

The problems and challenges that hypnosis can shift are insurmountable. From chronic pain to a fear of public speaking, this process combats the issues we have and brings us into a place of alignment. This is not a one size fits all method; in fact, it works 100%of the time on folks who play an active role in their healing process and take accountability for their own change. On the other hand, it works 0% of the time for folks who want someone else to fix them. If you’re wondering what that looks like, well it’s someone who says this; "I want someone else to just take over my mind and make this problem go away for me". I never take on a client who isn't willing to take responsibility for their own healing change. This is an all-or-nothing kind of process. If you want it to work and believe that you are a part of the change that is cultivating, then your results will be life-changing

Different Types Of Hypnosis

Plenty of techniques can be used in a trance, these are just the most common and the foundational the staples in my own personal practice. If you are researching practitioners, ask questions, and find out what methods they use to get the results you are looking for.

Suggestions

Suggestions are what a hypnotherapist will use to not only bring you into a trance, but also to integrate a new way of thought. For example, when bringing someone into a trance state, I may say, “and as you settle into the surface beneath you, you will relax deeper and deeper" or “as you notice your breathing, your body gently begins to release any tension you have been holding onto"; and the deeper and deeper you get into that relaxed state, the more open your mind becomes to suggestions that correlate to the issue you may be having.

Let's look at an example, shall we? Let's say someone is struggling with anger; they lash out at everyone for the littlest thing. Some suggestions I might use could look like this "as you feel into that anger, notice where you feel it in your body. Does it have a shape or a color? Does it look like someone you know or a figure from a dream? Simply notice what it may need…. Compassion, curiosity, forgiveness? And you, as you ponder what it needs, you allow a door to appear in your mind… maybe you see it, maybe you feel it, or perhaps you just know that it's there. Allow this door to guide you into what is is this anger needs in order to feel whole, validated, and held".

The suggestions I use are always specific to each client and help them process what's coming up. Another way suggestions could look for this hypothetical person could be: "As you breathe easily and effortlessly, your mind realizes that you have a choice… in everything that you do, you choose… you choose to wake up in the morning, you choose to find joy in the thing that you love… and you choose to release this anger that has held you back from connecting with your loved ones on a deeper level; because when you choose to release this anger, it will be replaced with things like forgiveness, compassion, ad curiosity, won't it? Because your mind always could replace one thing with another, as long as it suits you, and these feelings of forgiveness, curiosity, and compassion suit you because you told me they do. You came here to shift your perspective so your life can be filled with more joy and less stress".

These suggestions can be used alongside any other methods that are explained in this article or as a stand-alone technique. These suggestions only work for those who believe they play a role in their integration. It is still a collaboration between you and the practitioner. I'll say it here if you have yet to hear me say it. HYPNOSIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO YOU; IT HAPPENS WITH YOU. You must come to the conclusion that you are the alchemist of your life and take responsibility for the change that occurs. If you believe that, then this process will absolutely work for you.

Now, you may already know this, but let me just state that marketing companies use suggestions all the time to get us to buy things; "these lights are brighter and better", "our soil will make your plants healthier and stronger", "this toothpaste will make your teeth 80% whiter" and our brains accept what aligns with either our values or our insecurities. The difference between this suggestion and the ones I use in a session is that you guide me through the blocks you have, the way you want to feel, and the language you use, to ensure that everything I say is tailored to your subconscious mind.

Observing

This session requires your attention and participation but does not require your voice. It can involve suggestions, visualizations, and questions that allow your mind to think and process deep subconscious structures. The work here is done within your mind, so the practitioner may ask you a question. Still, instead of responding with an answer aloud, you will take time to find the answer within. If you struggle to discover subconscious insights, all you have to do is let the practitioner know. They will use that information to guide you deeper into your internal wisdom. In this session, you may uncover why you have the habit you do, or what belief you need to release to move forward. These sessions are great for folks who meditate often and have had practiced staying in the present moment; as they move step by step through the questions and keep their train of unconscious thought without getting distracted.

Interactive

An interactive session is excellent for many reasons. The big one is that when we use our voice to express feelings and beliefs that we have locked away, there is a powerful energetic shift that happens. This is because the voice is connected to the vagus nerve, which is the part of our body that is responsible for our sympathetic nervous system, our parasympathetic nervous system, and the way we react to triggering situations. So when you use your voice to express emotions, you are processing it through a mind + body connection that allows trauma stored in the body to be released. Another reason this method is excellent is its ability to keep you in the present moment. Suppose you struggle with wandering thoughts and losing track of what you are doing; this process will help you practice being in the present moment, guiding yu so that you stay in the process and work though your blocks.

This is where the majority of my work lives. I LOVE doing interactive sessions, helping folks uncover the things that have held them back, and integrating the new ways of being they want to shift into. When I do this kind of work, it can look a few different ways. I may ask questions that expand your view of a situation, allowing you to create space around the problem you have, which gives you a new perspective that provides healing to occur. I love doing this in trance because your answer comes from a deep subconscious place, rather than an analytical place when we are in our natural brain pattern of "doing". We can also work on parts integration and uncover what parts of you need nurturing; which ones are running the show, and which ones need more attention and validation. Interactive sessions can also be a regression to an old memory that needs to be rewritten and mended in order to heal, as well as regression to utero, past lives, and life between lives; as well as dream work. Our dreams are our subconscious way of exploring and processing our deepest feelings and beliefs. Do you have active nightmares? Interactive sessions can help you walk through these dreams and understand what messages your mind is trying to relate.
